In last month, I came eye2eye with serious problem in interactive banner making. Our company had several clients which wanted their banners to have dynamic forms with drop-downs and input fields. Latest Flash version changed components structure if you compare it with Flash MX components, so when you put a combobox component into your project, it suddenly becomes bigger by 50kb when published.

I must admit Im not a pro in Actionscript. I tried to search for info about lightweight components, but everything I found were components for sale, and the set price was from 99$ to 300$.

My solution was to go back to basics. I installed Flash MX, added all the components I needed for the banner, and made the rest on Flash 8. It worked fine so the banner sizes havent exceeded the 30kb limit.

I know it’s not the best method, but it worked for me.
